Gomasio: a blend of toasted sesame seeds and sea salt

Gomashio or gomasio is a condiment made from a mixture of toasted sesame seeds and sea salt. It has been used for millennia in Japan. The word gomasio is formed from goma, which means "sesame" in Japanese, and shio, "salt".

Summary

Gomasio: a blend of toasted sesame seeds and sea salt

In terms of taste, gomasio has a much more complex flavor than pure sea salt.
Aside from the salty taste provided by the salt, gomasio is characterized by this nutty-like flavor obtained from the roasting of sesame.

In Japanese cuisine, it is customary to use gomasio in the preparation of dishes and as a garnish at the table.

By regularly consuming this condiment of Asian origin, we benefit at the same time from sesame's many health benefits. It is an excellent source of calcium.

Sesame is also said to help maintain our nervous system, thanks to its high content of essential fatty acids.

How to make your own Gomasio?

Toast the sesame seeds in a frying pan or in a low oven (80°C or th. 3) until golden, keeping a close eye on them to make sure they don't burn.

Mix them in a food processor with the Guérande salt, sugar and Espelette chilli.
You now have all the ingredients to make a small spinach salad with gomasio, for example.
