The Guérande salt marshes, an exceptional panorama and history

Guérande is a prime summer destination for lovers of beautiful landscapes, gastronomy and history. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, 2,000 hectares of salt marshes form a rainbow of colors that changes with the seasons, a dazzling spectacle as only nature can offer. This unique and protected site is one of the jewels of France's historic heritage, but also a rich and fragile ecosystem that contributes to the activity of the entire region.

Fun in the Guérande salt marshes with the whole family 

From ages 3 to 6: the workshop Le sel à petit pas led by salt workers where the little ones have fun collecting Guérande salt like real salt workers thanks to miniature traditional tools. 

From 7 to 12 years old:Three themed tours are offered to understand how salt marshes work. A visit packed with enigmas, Adventure around the saltworks, to explore the salt marshes while having fun, an experience dedicated to gourmands, Les chemins du goût, where you let your taste buds guide you, and finally, a visit that focuses on the animals that populate the marshes, Un coin de paradis.

For ages 13 and up: Les marais salants à la loupe, a visit in the form of a scientific experiment to understand the natural phenomena that influence salt production.

The Salt overview tour offers a great 45-minute introduction to the salt marshes and the formation of Guérande salt, while the Salt and nature tour offers a more detailed exploration of the marsh ecosystem. The Paludier profession tour is a unique opportunity to discover a centuries-old profession alongside real enthusiasts who will introduce you to the know-how required to harvest salt.
