At a time when fast-food outlets are multiplying, an eco-gastronomic movement is developing, the aim of which is to counter junk food and anything that could harm health. It's called Slow Food!

If you'd like to adopt a more natural, diversified diet, while eating a balanced diet, Slow Food is for you! This fairly recent approach defends the environment while encouraging conviviality and diversity of flavors around healthy, gourmet and balanced meals. 

You're probably wondering when and how this movement emerged? Here are a few key dates and figures to help you make sense of it: 

  • It first appeared in 1986, thanks to Italian food writer Carlo Petrini, who wanted to defend the flavors of Italian gastronomy in the face of standardization of taste. 
  • International, this movement today brings together tens of thousands of members, from countries with different customs and gastronomies.

The key values of Slow Food

Slow Food has its own principles and values, which make it a distinctive eco-food movement. Here are a few of them, to help you understand this approach and, if you wish, start your Slow Food lifestyle.

And yes, this condiment perfectly meets the criteria of Slow food! You'll be able to use it at will in your recipes, as it fits in very well with your new, more balanced and ecological eating habits. 

Local and artisanal, Fleur de sel Le Guérandais is produced in Guérande, with respect for the environment. 

In fact, it's hand-picked and harvested flush with water using a lousse and thanks to a unique know-how that preserves the heritage of the salt marshes. This ancestral technique makes Le Guérandais Fleur de sel a genuine natural flavor enhancer with strong gustatory properties. The salt workers who harvest it take weather conditions into account, adapting to the Fleur de sel and its requirements. For example, an easterly wind is essential to the formation and development of Fleur de sel, and sunny days are essential for harvesting. Above all, Fleur de sel does not tolerate rain and disappears on contact with it.

But Le Guérandais doesn't stop at artisanal Fleur de sel and offers you coarse salt or even fine salt that are produced just as naturally. They fit perfectly into the Slow food movement and will become the kings of your balanced, local gastronomy!

A humane and supportive action in the heart of the salt marshes

One of the aims of the Slow Food movement is to support artisanal and traditional producers, and Le Guérandais totally fulfills this principle. Indeed, in the 70s, the Guérande salt workers created a cooperative, to promote solidarity rather than individual profit. A common price is thus set each year to enable producers to make a decent living.
